Taylor Jenkins Reid is the author of the New York Times bestselling novels; “Malibu Rising”, “Daisy Jones and the Six” and “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo”. She began her career as a casting assistant. Reid published her first novel in 2013.
It was in 2020 that I read Reid’s bestselling novel “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo”. I was both intrigued and astounded by her impeccable storytelling. I am a sucker for historical fiction books and this novel is a fusion of historical fiction, romance and contemporary fiction. That’s why I simply couldn’t put it down!
Reid’s latest novel “Malibu Rising” is another incredible story. I picked up the book within the first week of its release!

Forever, Interrupted (2013)
Taylor Jenkins Reid’s debut novel is about a heartwrenching romance between Elsie Porter and Ben Ross. They met at a pizza place on New Year’s eve, probably not the most romantic destination but charming enough to feel special. Their chemistry is dynamic and within weeks they’re madly in love. Six months after they get married, tragedy strikes and Elsie has to face the truth that her husband is no more. At the hospital, she meets her mother-in-law- who doesn’t even know who she is. After I Do (2014)
This refreshing romance follows a husband and his wife who decide to take a year off from their marriage. Lauren and Ryan have been married for eleven years and they have come to a realisation that they are no longer in love with each other. As a result, their relationship begins to suffer. Now Lauren sets off a journey of self-discovery. During the process, she begins to ponder the question of monogamy and marriage. An utterly realistic novel that deals with one’s internal thoughts ad conflicts.

Maybe in Another Life (2015)
Reid’s third book is not entirely a romance novel. Yes, it has the themes of romance but the story discusses the choices in our lives, the what-ifs that we constantly deal with. Hannah Martin is certainly not at a pleasant phase of her life. She has no job and no place to call home. Her affair with a married man has been terrible. Now she packs up to move to her hometown where she is about to meet her best friend Gabby. However, she also meets her high school boyfriend, Ethan. Soon Hannah has to make a choice between these two, Gabby or Ethan. What will her life be? The story takes the reader to both paths. In alternating chapters, we see what happens in both scenarios.

One True Loves (2016)
Emma Blair met Jesse Lerner at high school and she fell in love with him instantly. They both have been madly in love ever since. After graduating they move to California, far away from their parents, where they get married and explore the world together. On their first wedding anniversary, Jess is killed in a helicopter accident. Heartbroken, Emma moves back home trying to find solace. Years after, she finds love again with her old friend Sam. But then again life has its surprises, Emma learns that her husband Jess is still alive. Now she has to choose between her husband and fiancee. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo (2017)
The novel follows the fictional movie star Evelyn Hugo, who has lived her life in the public eye. Yet she has secrets, a lot of them. And finally, at the age of 79, she is ready to disclose it to the world. She chooses the unknown reporter Monique Grant to do the job. Amidst Monique’s devastating personal and professional life, she has no choice but to accept the once in a lifetime chance, wondering why Evelyn Hugo chose her to do the job? And thus begin the glamorous and scandalous life story of Evelyn Hugo. A gripping novel with 60s Hollywood vibes and charm!

Evidence of the Affair (2018)
Evidence of the Affair is a short story (just under 100 pages). The story is written in a form of a letter between two strangers about the affair between their spouses. Their genuine communication reveals everything about their marriage and personal suffering.

Daisy Jones and the Six (2019)
Written in a form of interview transcripts “Daisy Jones & The Six” is essentially about the fictitious rock ‘n’ roll band from the 1970s named- Daisy Jones & The Six! Daisy Jones is young, beautiful and wild. She is a regular at nightclubs and loves to write songs and perform. But it wasn’t until she meets Bill from The Six, that she gets to perform in shows. Later, the band becomes Daisy Jones & The Six. The novel chronicles the rise of the band’s stardom to become one of the most legendary bands and its overnight split up. Daisy Jones & the Six is planned as a television mini-series with thirteen episodes.

Malibu Rising (2021)
The Riva family summer party is well-known in Malibu. It’s hosted by the four Riva siblings- Nina, Jay, Hud and Kit. Nina is a celebrity swimsuit model, Jay is a professional surfer and Hud is a talented photographer. The youngest Kit is a graduate student. The siblings are also known as the children of legendary singer Mic Riva. Reid has narrated the novel as a series of events in a 24 hour period. However, she includes the family story of the Riva family including Mick Riva’s marriage to June and the birth of their two children Nina and Jay
