The Bear and the Nightingale is about Vasya, a brave girl who loves nature more than society. She can talk to the guardian spirits around her. Everything changes when Anna and a priest named Konstantin come to town. They spread fear and make the community stop believing in their protective spirits. This is a beautiful winter book that I absolutely loved. It’s one of the first winter-themed books I’ve read, and I fell in love with it. However, I still have to read the whole series.

One Day in December by Josie Silver
Next in the list is a Christmas romance One Day in December. It’s about Laurie, who doesn’t believe in love at first sight until she spots a guy through a bus window one snowy day. They have this magical moment, but then her bus drives away, and she can’t stop thinking about him. She spends a whole year searching for him but doesn’t find him until they “reunite” at a Christmas party. Turns out, he’s dating her best friend, Sarah! What follows is a complicated story of their friendship, heartbreak, and missed chances over the next ten years.

The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey
Set in Alaska in 1920 about a couple named Jack and Mabel. They’re having a really tough time homesteading and feel like they’re drifting apart, especially since they don’t have kids. One day, during the first snowfall, they build a snow child for fun. But the next morning, the snow child is gone, and they spot a young girl named Faina running through the trees. Faina seems magical and she hunts with a red fox and lives alone in the wilderness. Jack and Mabel start to love her like their own daughter. But as they get to know her, they realize things aren’t as simple as they seem. The story takes some unexpected twists, and what they learn about Faina changes everything for them. The Snow Child is a beautiful blend of fairy tale and reality.

In a Holidaze by Christina Lauren
Next in the list is a holiday book called In a Holidaze by Christina Lauren. It’s about Maelyn Jones, who’s really not feeling the holiday spirit this year. She’s stuck living with her parents, hates her job, and just made a huge romantic mistake. To make things worse, it’s the last Christmas at her family’s beloved cabin in Utah, where they’ve spent every holiday. As she drives away, she makes a wish to the universe to show her what will make her happy. Suddenly, she gets into a car accident, and when she wakes up, she’s on a plane headed back to Utah, reliving the same holiday over and over again.

Lovelight Farms by B.K. Borison
This cute rom-com called Lovelight Farms, we have two best friends, Stella and Luka, fake date to try to save her Christmas tree farm. Stella’s struggling because the farm isn’t the winter wonderland she dreamed of, it’s got dead trees and raccoons taking over the Santa barn! To help out, she enters a contest with an Instagram influencer for a cash prize that could save the farm. But she lied on her application and said she has a boyfriend who owns the farm with her. But, of course, there’s no boyfriend! That’s where Luka comes in. He just stopped by for hot chocolate and ends up agreeing to pretend to be Stella’s boyfriend.

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens
This classic story called A Christmas Carol about Ebenezer Scrooge, who is a total grinch. He thinks Christmas is just another day, and he famously says he wishes all the cheerful people celebrating it would be punished. But everything changes for him when the ghost of his old business partner, Marley, shows up to warn him.

Beartown by Fredrik Backman
This book is about this small town that’s struggling to survive but has big dreams, especially when it comes to their junior ice hockey team. The town’s hope rests on these teenage boys because they’re about to compete in the national semi-finals and actually have a chance to win. But with all that pressure, things take a dark turn during the game when a violent act happens that really shakes the community. I’m a huge fan of Fredrik Backman’s writing, and Anxious People is my absolute favorite and I am really excited to read Beartown this winter.

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott, which is such a classic! It follows the March sisters Jo, Beth, Meg, and Amy, who are all so different but very close . o is this tomboy and aspiring author, Beth is really frail and sweet, Meg is the beautiful one, and Amy is the romantic and kind of spoiled sister. There’s even a movie adaptation that captures the essence of the book really well! If you haven’t read it yet, I definitely recommend it!
Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah
I’m a huge fan of Kristin Hannah, and I recently read The Women and loved it! So, I am not surprise to see her winter-themed novel, Winter Garden in the list of most rated winter books. It follows sisters Meredith and Nina Whitson, who couldn’t be more different. Meredith stays at home to raise her kids and manage the family apple orchard, while Nina pursues her dream as a world-traveling photojournalist. When their dad gets seriously ill, the sisters reunite with their cold and disapproving mother, Anya, who doesn’t really offer them any support. The only thing that connected them as kids was a Russian fairy tale Anya used to tell. On his deathbed, their father makes them promise to tell that fairy tale one last time, which leads them to discover the truth about Anya’s life during World War II in Leningrad.
