Sally Rooney is an Irish author best known for her novel “Normal People”, published in  2019. She holds a degree in English and American literature. She currently resides in Dublin. 

Rooney began her writing as a teenager. Her first novel “Conversations With Friends” was completed while pursuing her master’s degree. Her second novel “Normal People”, also her first New York Times Bestseller, was long-listed for the Man Booker Prize. The novel also won several major awards including “Irish Novel of the Year”. 

Rooney’s work has also been published in The Dublin Review, The Stinging Fly and Granta. 
Rooney’s latest novel “Beautiful World, Where Are You” published in September 2021, is an instant New York Times bestseller!

Beautiful World, Where Are You (2021)

“Beautiful World, Where Are You” is about four young people from Ireland struggling to get through their lives. Alice is a novelist who just moved to Dublin. After an awkward first date night, she asks Felix to travel with her to Rome. After breaking up with her boyfriend, Elien finds solace in her childhood friend Simon. As both of these couples’ relationships progress, they get tangled in their thoughts and emotions. They worry about their life and the world they live in.  

Normal People (2018)

This is the story of high-school teens Marianne and Connell. Marianne is wealthy but socially awkward at school. While Connel is quite a star in the school but belongs to a working-class family. But despite their differences, both are drawn into each other and involved in a secret relationship for a short time. And the two meet again in college, and this time Marianne is a popular figure among others. Yet, even in the new surroundings, they still feel attracted to each other. 

Conversations with Friends ( 2017)

The plot follows two young women, Frances and Bobi, who are performance poets and used to be in a relationship in school. When Melissa a journalist from Dublin, spot their talent, both are thrilled to be recognized. Shortly after Frances bonds with Melissa’s husband Nick and starts an affair. Eventually, secrets are revealed, but things get messier as Frances is unable to find her true self.

This contains two short stories; “Mr Salary” and “Colour and Light”. “Mr Salary” follows Sukie, who moved in with Nathan aka Mr Salary. But their difference in age makes their relationship complicated. “In Colour and Light”,  almost strangers Aidan and Pauline meet occasionally, developing a strange connection between them.
