Unforgettable Thriller Books To Read
The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides

The Silent Patient is a psychological thriller that revolves around Alicia, who stops speaking after killing her husband. Later, a psychotherapist named Theo becomes fixated on her case. This fast-paced thriller, with shorter chapters and an intense plot, is one of my favorite thrillers of all time. Also read best books like The Silent Patient.
Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening her husband Gabriel returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face, and then never speaks another word.
Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety. The price of her art skyrockets, and she, the silent patient, is hidden away from the tabloids and spotlight at the Grove, a secure forensic unit in North London.
Theo Faber is a criminal psychotherapist who has waited a long time for the opportunity to work with Alicia. His determination to get her to talk and unravel the mystery of why she shot her husband takes him down a twisting path into his own motivations—a search for the truth that threatens to consume him….

Verity is one of the few psychological thrillers that actually made me go, What did I just read? It’s steady, addictive, and incredibly twisty. The story starts with Lowen, a struggling writer, taking on a job as a ghostwriter for the bestselling author Verity. Also read smutty books like Verity.

Lisa Jewell is another one of my favorite authors. She’s known for creating truly creepy characters that give you chills. None of This Is True another great book of hers I really loved. The book starts with a chance meeting between two women who share the same birthday. Both leading completely different lives. I really loved the plot and premise of this story. The complex characters and jaw-dropping twists make it an awesome psychological thriller.

The Guest List by Lucy Foley

The Guest List is hands-down my favorite atmospheric thriller. The story takes place on a remote island during a fancy wedding, and chaos erupts when a murder happens. I loved the multiple viewpoints, it’s such a cool way to see what’s really going on in each character’s mind. Perfect for anyone who loves a good whodunit!
A wedding celebration turns dark and deadly in this deliciously wicked and atmospheric thriller reminiscent of Agatha Christie from the New York Times bestselling author of The Hunting Party.
The bride – The plus one – The best man – The wedding planner – The bridesmaid – The body
On an island off the coast of Ireland, guests gather to celebrate two people joining their lives together as one. The groom: handsome and charming, a rising television star. The bride: smart and ambitious, a magazine publisher. It’s a wedding for a magazine, or for a celebrity: the designer dress, the remote location, the luxe party favors, the boutique whiskey. The cell phone service may be spotty and the waves may be rough, but every detail has been expertly planned and will be expertly executed.
But perfection is for plans, and people are all too human. As the champagne is popped and the festivities begin, resentments and petty jealousies begin to mingle with the reminiscences and well wishes. The groomsmen begin the drinking game from their school days. The bridesmaid not-so-accidentally ruins her dress. The bride’s oldest (male) friend gives an uncomfortably caring toast.
And then someone turns up dead. Who didn’t wish the happy couple well? And perhaps more important, why?

Wrong Place Wrong Time by Gillian McAllister

Wrong Place Wrong Time is the story of Jen who sees her son commit a crime, then wakes up the next day living the day before it happens. Honestly, I was a bit skeptical about the plot at first because time travel books can sometimes be hard to follow. But this one was really awesome! The pace wasn’t too slow, and it was never boring. All the twists were great too.
Can you stop a murder after it’s already happened?
It is midnight on the morning of Halloween, and Jen anxiously waits up for her 18-year-old son, Todd, to return home. But worries about his broken curfew transform into something much more dangerous when Todd finally emerges from the darkness. As Jen watches through the window, she sees her funny, seemingly happy teenage son stab a total stranger.
She doesn’t know who the victim is, or why Todd has committed such a devastating act of violence. All she knows is that her life, and Todd’s, have been shattered.
After her son is taken into custody, Jen falls asleep in despair. But when she wakes up… it is yesterday. The murder has not happened yet—and there may be a chance to stop it. Each morning, when Jen wakes, she is further back in the past, first weeks, then years, before the murder. And Jen realizes that somewhere in the past lies the trigger for Todd’s terrible crime…and it is her mission to find it, and prevent it from taking place.

The Family Upstairs by Lisa Jewell

The Family Upstairs was the first book I ever read by Lisa Jewell, and I became a fan right away. I really enjoyed the sequel too! This one’s set in London’s Chelsea neighborhood and follows a tragic incident that happened twenty-five years ago
Soon after her twenty-fifth birthday, Libby Jones returns home from work to find the letter she’s been waiting for her entire life. She rips it open with one driving thought: I am finally going to know who I am.
She soon learns not only the identity of her birth parents, but also that she is the sole inheritor of their abandoned mansion on the banks of the Thames in London’s fashionable Chelsea neighborhood, worth millions. Everything in Libby’s life is about to change. But what she can’t possibly know is that others have been waiting for this day as well—and she is on a collision course to meet them.
Twenty-five years ago, police were called to 16 Cheyne Walk with reports of a baby crying. When they arrived, they found a healthy ten-month-old happily cooing in her crib in the bedroom. Downstairs in the kitchen lay three dead bodies, all dressed in black, next to a hastily scrawled note. And the four other children reported to live at Cheyne Walk were gone.
The can’t-look-away story of three entangled families living in a house with the darkest of secrets.

Ward D by Freida McFadden

Set in a psychiatric ward, Ward D really explores the questions of sanity and the human mind. The writing totally pulls you into the creepy setting, and as you get deeper into the story, you uncover tons of shocking twists. I loved the locked-room vibe and the adrenaline rush of the plot. Author’s exploration of psychological side of things was awesome too.
Medical student Amy Brenner is spending the night on a locked psychiatric ward.
Amy has been dreading her evening working on Ward D, the hospital’s inpatient mental health unit. There are very specific reasons why she never wanted to do this required overnight rotation. Reasons nobody can ever find out.

Ask for Andrea by Noelle W. Ihli

Ask for Andrea is a haunting story about three victims of a psychopath who come together to get revenge. I loved the fresh take on the serial killer/ghost story, and the different POVs made it even more compelling!
Meghan, Brecia, and Skye have just one thing in common.
They were all murdered by the same man.
He hunted them online, masquerading as an eligible bachelor. Then he played the perfect gentleman, a thick layer of charm and a thousand-watt smile hiding the fact that his first dates end in shallow graves.
He’s gotten away with murder three times now.
The only thing that might keep him from killing again? The women he murdered.

The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine

The Last Mrs Parrish is about Amber, who longs for a better life and envies the perfect world of Daphne Parrish. She decides to take advantage of Daphne’s kindness to steal her family and lifestyle. I absolutely loved the characters in this book. The plot was gripping and omg, the twist was mind-blowing.
Amber Patterson is fed up. She’s tired of being a nobody: a plain, invisible woman who blends into the background. She deserves more—a life of money and power like the one blond-haired, blue-eyed goddess Daphne Parrish takes for granted.

Amber’s envy could eat her alive . . . if she didn’t have a plan. The Boyfriend by Freida McFadden

I was super excited to read McFadden’s new book, The Boyfriend, and it did not disappoint! The story follows Sydney Shaw, who’s had some seriously bad luck with dating, along with her best friends and new boyfriend. I absolutely loved the setting and the shocking reveal.
Sydney Shaw, like every single woman in New York, has terrible luck with dating. She’s seen it men who lie in their dating profile, men who stick her with the dinner bill, and worst of all, men who can’t shut up about their mothers. But finally, she hits the jackpot.
Her new boyfriend is utterly perfect. He’s charming, handsome, and works as a doctor at a local hospital. Sydney is swept off her feet.
Then the brutal murder of a young woman―the latest in a string of deaths across the coast―confounds police. The primary suspect? A mystery man who dates his victims before he kills them.
Sydney should feel safe. After all, she is dating the guy of her dreams. But she can’t shake her own suspicions that the perfect man may not be as perfect as he seems. Because someone is watching her every move, and if she doesn’t get to the truth, she’ll be the killer’s next victim…
A dark story about obsession and the things we’ll do for love, #1 New York Times bestselling author Freida McFadden proves that crimes of passion are often the bloodiest.

The Maidens by Alex Michaelides

The Maidens combines mystery with Greek mythology, which I found super cool. It’s about a therapist who gets caught up in a murder investigation linked to a secret society. I really enjoyed the atmospheric writing. And it’s by the same author as The Silent Patient.
Edward Fosca is a murderer. Of this Mariana is certain. But Fosca is untouchable. A handsome and charismatic Greek Tragedy professor at Cambridge University, Fosca is adored by staff and students alike—particularly by the members of a secret society of female students known as The Maidens.
Mariana Andros is a brilliant but troubled group therapist who becomes fixated on The Maidens when one member, a friend of Mariana’s niece Zoe, is found murdered in Cambridge.
Mariana, who was once herself a student at the university, quickly suspects that behind the idyllic beauty of the spires and turrets, and beneath the ancient traditions, lies something sinister. And she becomes convinced that, despite his alibi, Edward Fosca is guilty of the murder. But why would the professor target one of his students? And why does he keep returning to the rites of Persephone, the maiden, and her journey to the underworld?
When another body is found, Mariana’s obsession with proving Fosca’s guilt spirals out of control, threatening to destroy her credibility as well as her closest relationships. But Mariana is determined to stop this killer, even if it costs her everything—including her own life.
