Thrillers With the Best Plot Hangovers
Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera
Listen for the Lie is an addictive thriller book I enjoyed in 2024. It follows Lucy Chase, who many believe killed her best friend, Savannah. Although, Lucy moves to a new city for a fresh start, nothing seems to work. Now, year later a true crime podcast starts to investigate what really happened that night. This was a humorous thriller with really good plot. I listened to the audio version and absolutely loved it as well.
This gripping mystery asks: What if you thought you killed your best friend, but couldn’t remember? And what if everyone else believed you did?
Lucy and Savvy were the perfect pair in their Texas town—beautiful, smart, and admired. Lucy had the dream life with a perfect husband and home, while Savvy was the social queen with a magnetic charm. But everything changed one night when Lucy was found covered in Savvy’s blood, with no memory of what happened.
Years later, Lucy has built a new life in LA, far from the whispers of her past. But a popular true crime podcast, Listen for the Lie, picks up Savvy’s case, pulling Lucy back to the town she escaped. As she faces old accusations and painful memories, Lucy must uncover the truth—even if it means learning she’s guilty after all.
This is a haunting story about secrets, lies, and the past you can’t outrun.

The story starts rather slow, with not much happening in the first few chapters. We follow Rachel as she takes the train, but slowly, everything comes to light. This is also one of the bone-chilling thrillers that will definitely give you a hangover afterward.
